Northern Voyager
Prepare for a road trip like no other to experience the best of New Zealand's North Island. Discover movie magic, explore glowworm caves, experience the rich Maori culture, and traverse the world-famous Tongariro Crossing.

Got the itch to see New Zealand with people who actually want to be outside doing something, not stuck on a 50-seat coach? Our Adventure tours are built for exactly that — small groups of 18 to 39 year olds road-tripping the North or South Island, with a local guide handling the logistics so you can focus on the glaciers, the glowworms, and the group chat you'll still be in three years from now.

It’s the question almost every first-time visitor asks. With only a week, the smartest move is to choose one island and do it properly. Here’s the easy way to compare them.

Wild Kiwi is a B Corp Certified tour operator, which means we’re independently verified for our social and environmental impact. We travel by the Tiaki Promise: Aotearoa's pledge to care for the land, the people, and the culture.
Small groups leave smaller footprints. Even on a fast-paced North Island tour, our group cap of 18 means less pressure on the trails and viewpoints we visit.
We also choose low-impact suppliers and brief every guide on Leave No Trace principles.
Our guides introduce Māori place names, stories and customs as you travel. We also engage thoughtfully at cultural experiences along the route, whether that's a hāngī dinner at Mitai or a stop at a wāhi tapu site.

If you’re short on time but want to see the best of Aotearoa, our 7-day tours are your ultimate Kiwi road trip. They're perfect for first-time visitors, solo travellers, or adventure-seekers who want to capture the essence of New Zealand.
From glaciers and fjords to glowworm caves and Māori culture, you can experience it all without the stress of planning. Every detail is taken care of so you can focus on the experience, not the logistics.
Real stories from travellers who've experienced the magic of New Zealand with us
Adventure tours are built for 18 to 39 year olds, capped at 18 guests, with a livelier pace and more budget-conscious accommodation. Premium tours are open to all ages, capped at 14 guests, with upgraded accommodation and a slower rhythm. Both cover the same bucket-list regions and activities.
The 18–39 range applies at the time of travel. If you'll still be 39 or under on your departure date, you're good to book an Adventure tour. If you're just over the range, our Premium tours cover the same routes and are open to all ages.
A mix of ages within the 18–39 range, bonded more by attitude than by exact birthdate — mostly independent travellers who want an active, social trip. A large share of guests join solo, so you won't be the only one without a built-in travel buddy.
Both. The big-ticket days are planned for you, but free-choice time is built in throughout — a self-guided afternoon in Rotorua, a pick-your-own-adventure day in Queenstown — so you can opt into group activities or go off on your own.
Comfortable, budget-conscious accommodation shared with the group — a step up from a hostel dorm, without tipping into premium territory. Exact room configuration varies by tour and departure, so our booking team can confirm specifics for solo travellers or those wanting a private room.
Most visitors from visa-waiver countries need an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority), arranged online before you fly. Requirements vary by passport, so check the current rules for your nationality ahead of booking.
Yes, our Adventure tours offer guaranteed year-round departures, so you can book with confidence rather than waiting to see if a minimum group size is reached.
You can absolutely join solo. Solo travellers make up a large share of guests on every Adventure tour. See our full guide to solo travel in New Zealand for more.
Groups stay genuinely small (18 max, not 40–50), New Zealand is the sole focus of the itinerary rather than one stop on a multi-country circuit, and every guide is also your driver for the full route — so the same person who knows the roads is also the one telling you where to eat.
